Attention lazywebs!

I have a 5 lb chicken in my freezer, frozen solid as a bowling ball made of frozen chicken.

How long do I need to leave it in my fridge for it to defrost thoroughly?

How long can I leave it in the fridge before I have to worry about the chicken going horribly wrong?

In unrelated news, dinner tonight will be tacos made from scratch. Spread the word!

I'd say for a 5lb chicken, it'll take about 3 days to thaw completely in your refrigerator.

I'd say that it won't go into the "do not eat" territory until about 5 days.

Just make sure you got something to catch the thawed juice in so you don't get raw chicken juice all over your fridge.

Keep it wrapped in plastic, put it in a pot in your sink, fill the pot with COLD water, then let the faucet trickle a thin steady stream of cold water into the pot (let it overflow). The chicken should thaw in a few hours.
