Just watched the Project Runway finale. Jessica Simpson was the guest judge, and she's had so much plastic surgery/botox that she looks like she's had a stroke.

And that was the least of its problems.

I heard a rumour Tim Gunn won't be back next season, though I have no idea if it's just people poo-talking. I have conflicted feelings about this.

I know he was unhappy this season. I must say, I don't think I'll watch it without Tim Gunn.

No, me neither. I hope Tim Gunn gets his own/on some other show, though. I'd be sad if he left television for good.

Tim should have tiebreaker discretion.

Havign said that, the woman in the deli is right -- Mondo will be fine without this win, Gretchen... well.

And yet she still showed a better sense of style than Michael and Nina. Go figure.

Michael and Nina are not about sense of style -- they perceive themselves as experts in what will appeal to those 'women in the street', of whom they have little notion (but imagine them vaguely as busy moms who wear sweats in colors that don't show baby poo). They need judges who actually care about fashion and not just shilling.

I feel like Michael is primarily concerned about what will sell, rather than what's intrinsically interesting or pushing the envelope. I feel like his aesthetic is... not especially exciting, but he's made a very successful career out of it. He's not without style, but it's heavily tempered by commercialism.

Nina Garcia, on the other hand, I have a lot less respect for. She's timid, inconsistent and yes, I agree I feel like she panders to the mythical average woman. But then she runs Marie Claire, and they ain't exactly French Vogue, you know?

I think both are slaves to what's on-trend. It makes them reject otherwise tolerable things that are the "wrong" color, for example, like this season's ridiculous allergy to the color blue, and let some ridiculous shit past their filters (like most of Michael C's work this season).

Heidi's no envelope pusher herself, but I tend to respect her opinions more than the other two.

All three are terrible judges for a fashion show -- all three are very unimaginative and driven by market (or short hemlines). They need to scrap that judging panel and start over, with Simon Doonan, Lynne Yaeger and Dita von Teese as the new judges, with Iris Apfel, Beth Ditto, Tilda Swinton and Cathy Horyn as guests.

And yet the both have declared something "wearable" as an insult to the outfit. Neither make sense anymore.

They use 'wearable' as a demarcation between high and low fashion; however, they're on the crossroads: while they still have contempt for the average person, recession forces them to become cost-conscious. Hence the slightly split judging persona -- they intuitively loathe the wearable because it signifies accessible, and yet, both have shit to push since the luxury market shrunk so much. MICHAEL by Michael Kors probably outsells his main line, I'm guessing.
