The new Dr. Who episode was very disappointing, featuring poor/cheap characterization, lazy writing, blatant ripoffs of not only itself but also its own spinoffs, and massive plot holes big enough to drive a space whale through.

The sole redeeming feature was Matt Smith's performance, which managed to be quirky and yet subtle enough to satisfy. His face may look like a sculptor was running behind schedule and kiln-fired whatever slapdash crockery his apprentice managed to throw together between lunch and tea, but Smith seems to be a decent actor with a solid handle on what his audience wants to see.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that episode was a joke. Cheap attempts at storytelling through emotional manipulation at the expense of plot are (well, can be) fine, as long as they're NEW cheap attempts at storytelling through emotional manipulation at the expense of plot.

We were like, "Why didn't he just get in his TARDIS and FLY AROUND THE SHIP?!?!?" Could have just hung Amelia right out the door.

Also, LOL at Smith's crockery face.
