Not classy, Burger King.

Really?! And no one on the "Burger King Marketing team" caught that before it went out? LOL

[identity profile] kylecassidy.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
but oh so funny.

[identity profile] yagathai.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there's no such thing as bad publicity, right?

[identity profile] redstapler.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, and I read an article just recently about how they keep shooting themselves in the foot with their advertising.

Weak sauce.

You think it was done accidentally?

Also, most people would read the type as "It'll blow" as in "It'll fail" (without necessarily reading the next line if they're in a hurry). So, marketing FAIL all round, really.

[identity profile] sandrawickham.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no idea, I assumed it was by accident since Burger King is a "family" targeted business.. Horrible either way!

[identity profile] sandrawickham.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. Agreed!

[identity profile] yagathai.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't imagine it was anything but deliberate at some level. It might have been the ad agency that did it on purpose and the Burger King approvals process fell down on the job, or maybe it was smirks and winks all the way up the chain.

[identity profile] lawbabeak.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That's even worse than the "I like square butts" add they did. It's based around their Spnge Bob campaign, but BK said it was aimed at an older audience and only showed on later-night TV (like kids don't watch prime time) (or like I might not find that offensive, not that I eat at BK anyway).

[identity profile] lostreality.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
no way, this was calculated and deliberate. Burger king has been trying to target the 'teenage boy' demographic for a while now, and this is just one in a series. They might not realize that they're turning off every woman who might ever want to eat there.

BK has been a huge FAIL in the marketing department for a while now, what's up with that super creepy king dude?

[identity profile] yagathai.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
But... I don't want sex in my hamburger. Or hamburger in my sex. Nor did I when I was a teenager.

[identity profile] revsaintmichael.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Also Yup.

Also, could they make her look any more like a blow up doll?

[identity profile] glamour-junkie.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Marketing people and graphic designers for advertising are dirty birds. This was 110% deliberate.

Heh, and you're talking about it.
And at least one person who's read this post will crave BK and go for it in the next couple of days.

Job well done.

But I larfed

[identity profile] xraytheenforcer.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That's actually a human? I thought it WAS a blow-up doll.

[identity profile] yagathai.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Like I said, no such thing as bad publicity. ;D

There's a Burger King ad with Padma Lakshmi in it that may make you want to have a burger AND sex.

/Mmmm, Padma. Would hit that like the fist of an angry god were she into chicks.

[identity profile] yagathai.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
No, all it would do is turn me off of Padma Lakshmi.

[identity profile] revsaintmichael.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
At first I thought it was a human. And then I thought it was a RealDoll/blow-up doll. Then I found this plain version of the ad:

Here you go

and am now guessing it's a human.

Now I'm wondering what would be tackier: human or doll.
And wondering if she/it is wearing a wig.
And thinking I'm thinking about this too much.
I think I do not like the ad.

[identity profile] xraytheenforcer.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Human for sure. How fucking awful all around.

[identity profile] roomette.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
I love the look on her face, like opening her mouth will make it fly in.

[identity profile] saltedpin.livejournal.com 2009-06-26 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
Why is someone feeding a blow-up doll a sub? Is this one of those sad cases where a guy thinks his sex toy is his real girlfriend? Is that the demographic they are attempting to appeal to?

[identity profile] owlswater.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh, that wasn't really what I got out of that article. What I did get was that their same-store sales growth is positive, but not as high as McDonalds. Personally, if I was going to blame something for their less-than-McDonaldsian growth rate, it would be their crappy food rather than the ads.
