Some of you may remember that I was a hat guy until a couple of years back (see icon). In Arizona, of course, one wears a hat regularly. When I came out East, I kept it up for a couple of years. That black hat in my icon was retired maybe... four years ago, after I had battered and sweated it into oblivion. It was the largest hat in the store and it was still about a half size too small for me.
I quit wearing them because a) the hateful, hateful daystar doesn't burn as brightly here as it does back in Phoenix, and b) it just became too much trouble to find nice looking hats in my size. I have an enormous noggin, and it isn't economical for most hatmakers to keep stock in my size (I'm around a 7 3/4, or more when my hair is longer). It's usually a special order job, and selection is limited and it tends to cost a lot.
However, with the pennies from heaven I got from the insurance company after the fire, I splurged a bit on a couple of hard-to-find Stetson dress hats in XXL. Today they arrived!
Well, one of them was wrong -- they sent me a rolled brim instead of a turndown brim, and I'm going to have to return it and that's going to be a real pain -- but the other is here and it's
awesome! And it fits on my head. Oh glory of glories, it
fits on my head.
