Some days I love Roger Ebert more than I usually do:

"Lasse Hallstrom's "Dear John" tells the heartbreaking story of two lovely young people who fail to find happiness together because they're trapped in an adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel."

Haha! I have only read and seen The Notebook. Though I enjoyed both, I had ZERO desire to read any of his other books.

bah - nicholas sparks is one of my guilty pleasure authors for when I just want to read something mindless and believe in happily ever after (or not - it doesn't always happen that way in his books).
However, in the case of Dear John, I almost couldn't finish the book it was so bad. I'm not surprised the movie is the same.

...and Roger Ebert is one of my favorite people of all time, for lines just like this.
