Shit, if I'd known you were going for red, I'd have told you what my stylist does-- there's some colour made by Loreal's professional line that will lift brown or black hair up to bright candy-apple red. It's fantastic and lasts way longer than Special Effects or Manic Panic because hair never holds colour as well after it's been bleached.
