Based solely on the pilot, Terriers is the best new crime drama of the last few years -- in fact, the best private eye show I can remember in a good while. It reminds me of The Rockford Files in all the best ways -- a sort of Elmore-Leonard-meets-Big-Lebowski vibe. Acting is good-to-great, and I have always enjoyed Donal Logue's work.

Highly recommended. Two thumbs up.

I was going to go to the farmer's market this morning, but I slept right through my 9:30 alarm and woke up about half-past noon. Boo. But since then I've done a load of dishes, cleaned out the litterboxes, and I'm on my second load of laundry. Yay!

I am, for the moment, ignoring the nigh-unspeakably awful state of the floors and counters. I'm out of oil soap and pine sol and cleaning stuff anyway.

To do this week: Make a drugstore run for cleaning supplies, use cleaning supplies, work on my D&D games, work on my BW scenario for 10.10.10, work on the Fight! event at 10.10.10, work out a reasonable budget for my trip to World Fantasy, if I can. Also start putting away my spring/summer clothes and see what fall clothes need mending, dry-cleaning, etc. I can already tell I'm low on work-appropriate shirts, though I'll have a surplus of sweaters come the winter.

My dinner plans fell through, and I was forced to scrounge for whatever I could find in the forgotten recesses of my fridge. Happily, I always keep an emergency steak in the freezer for just such an exigency. I cooked it with a very simple tangy garlic rub. For the side dish, I improvised a generous helping of wild yellow carrots in a spicy lavender-peach glaze. Oh, and a couple of four slices of crispy-fried bacon that I was going to use crumbled into the carrots for texture, but the carrots took a while to cook and I was weak.

The carrots were already very sweet, and so the glaze was almost gilding the lily -- but I have so much of the lavender-peach syrup leftover from the other week that it didn't make sense not to use it.
