Jan. 30th, 2012 04:06 amSo the fast is over. I had a giant platter of disco fries (vegetarian gravy, onions, cheddar cheese) and a small 8oz strip steak with some delicious red cabbage and a tolerable good potato pancake. Also, about two pints of beer.
The meal was pretty decent but it wasn't OMG orgasm good, the way I expected a meal would be after that long without eating. It wasn't such a big deal.
In fact, if I had to summarize the experience, it would be with that line: "not such a big deal". It was mildly uncomfortable, sure, but not so horrible that it made a serious impression on me. I feel like I could easily have gone a few more days at that level of unpleasantness without being seriously tempted to give up.
So, bottom line: I tested myself and succeeded. I lost a couple of pounds -- if my math is right, I should have shed about two lbs of adipose tissue, and maybe three or four of water weight which will undoubtedly return shortly. I learned some interesting things about my body, and I saved some money, too.
It was not a life-changing experience. My other senses were not heightened (except, in the last day, for my sense of smell), and I did not pass into a zen-like satori state. I had no hallucinations, no visions, no spiritual epiphanies. I was ravenously hungry for the first 36 hours, mildly to moderately hungry for the last 36 and... that's it, really.
