Why is the only gin I have left in the house Bluecoat? That stuff is poison.

Obviously you're out of other gin based on the fact you'll actually drink it.

The bigger question is why do you have Bluecoat at all.

Sometimes you want poison.

And me without any Bluecoat.

We have Magellan and Plymouth at the moment. We also have a bottle of a bourbon-barrel-aged mead on hand that we figured you might like to try sometime when you're up here.

Sometimes the only proper gin is a mean gin.

It does bring up an interesting question: Bluecoat, I feel, works best in cocktails where some of that harshness can be smoothed out with other ingredients (e.g. citrus juice). But if you're looking for a mean gin, shouldn't one be drinking something like pink gin or a gin&tonic or a 3:1 gin:vermouth martini, three drinks where I find Bluecoat nigh-undrinkably harsh?

All of this is moot, in my case (screw you again, Herman). I'm curious how you feel about that dilemma, though.

That's an excellent question. I do drink Bluecoat in martinis, but only when I'm feeling ornery. I haven't really used it in citrus-based gin drinks, because in my head it's always used for punishing myself.

How is Herman doing, anyway?

He's ornery and demanding Bluecoat. ;-)
And crying over Mike Portnoy.

Seriously, WTF is up with that?

I've read that press release twice and I still am not sure. I mean, I can see his point about needing a break. But the other members of the band going on without him and without a name change seems...odd. Like Iron Maiden without Steve Harris.

I won't be surprised if, after a couple of years, Portnoy rejoins DT.

Yeah, I was already thinking about the inevitable reunion tour.
