It may sound a bit sad, but meal planning has become one of the favorite parts of my day. It's like worldbuilding, only it's delicious and you get to eat it instead of half-finishing a novel and then throwing it into the trash when you realize that it's complete crap, and also a total ripoff composite of a half-dozen already-derivative writers' worlds.

Tonight I'm going to sear and steam some radicchio (aka italian chicory) and serve it very simply with a bacon-mustard vinaigrette and some fresh ground black pepper. The only concern I have is that the dressing won't be enough to cut the bitterness of the chicory, but that's a risk I'll just have to take.

I'm thinking I'll try Trader Joe's brand gluten-free pasta as a main course, and if I'm feeling ambitious I'll do a pureed cauliflower soup on the side. I've still got a bunch of my rosemary-lemon chicken stock in the freezer, but I might go and buy some regular unflavored store-bought stuff. If I do the soup it will be with with chestnuts and curry, and I don't want to make the dish too busy.

you're not sad, you're just a foodie. :)

Exactly what I was thinking.

Sure. I'll send it over on my lunch break.

Bueno, gracias! I emailed you yesterday but I guess it's an address you don't use anymore.

I haven't really checked my email since Monday night. I've been mostly ignoring the outside world in favor of gin and Borderlands.

I can not criticize that, as I did much the same, though in my case it was rum.

I use the quinoa pasta that comes in an aqua box, I think the brand name is just "Quinoa." It's REALLY good, the noodles are always al dente and they just have a better flavour than durum wheat.

I will try it!

I really enjoy your dinner planning too. I guess that makes both of us sad... Or just really awesome people with good taste. This may not be of interest to you, but the gnocchi that they have at Trader Joe's are really good (and hard to fuck up, which is always a plus)...

I have to say that I'm glad I hadn't read all your food posts before we made dinner for you; I might have gotten intimidated, especially given the battlefield conditions.
